In honor of Halloween I give you my list of costumes

In honor of one of my fave holidays, I thought it only fitting to give you a list of every possible costume or person I have been. Also I found the Thriller song and it reminded me of my granny I dancing to it, ha ha.

I'm pretty sure there are others but those are just some of what I an think of right now. For my Medusa costume, I bought fake fishing worms and stapled them to a wig. I smelled like fish bait and my head itched all night, but it was worth it.

Once upon a candy striper

Hello friends! Happy Wednesday! When thinking of something to post about today I thought of A) Tour De Coop B) showing a new design or C) my dreams of becoming a nurse via a candy striper. So without further adue(hope I spelled that right) here's my story......

Way back when I was oh say in the 8Th grade I got a brilliant idea of becoming a nurse. My granny had been a nurse in the army and when she came home became a ER nurse at Duke. So like any little girl would I wanted to be like her. So the summer of 8Th grade me and mu friend Jennifer decided we would become candy striper's. Mostly because we wanted to wear the red and white outfit and the little hat. Our week of training goes great, no hick ups. On the following Monday we are told to meet in the lobby and they would assign us to which department we would be serving. Me and Jennifer wanted to be together and be on the baby floor, but that didn't happen. She was sent to the baby floor and I to the escort service. Now at first I was a little mad but when I finally got there I was in heaven. Nothing but a couple of old ladies sitting around a small room waiting for calls to take people down to their cars. They schooled me on what to do and where to go. My first job was to take magazines to the waiting areas and ask patients if they needed any new reading material. I soon got the privilege of escorting the patients in wheelchairs down to the car pool area. Very fun, especially pushing someone in a wheel chair! Now weeks went by and I did my same routine, shuttle someone out, shuttle some magazines around and shuttle someone out. Until one day they needed somebody on the baby floor, I nearly died, when they chose me. So off I go skirting my way up there trying to be a professional 14 year old. The elevator finally dings on my floor and there I see it, the babies. I go to the nurses station and ask where they need me. I was sent to a sweet little baby that had been dropped off by his mother and they needed someone just to sit and rock him. I was thrilled! We sat and rocked for a couple of hours, until a nurse came in and told me I needed to pick up some of kind of file for him. So she gives me directions and I go on my merry way. I notice when I got to the floor she said the file was on that it was a colder than normal. But if you know me I am a little naive so I thought nothing of it. Well there wasn't many rooms on this floor so I just went to each on looking at the door for the right one. Well I keep walking and suddenly I enter two double doors and instant coldness, not a good sign, but silly me kept walking. I finally saw another room and thought well this has got to be it. When I entered the room I saw metal doors in the wall and two bodies with blankets over them with little tags on their toes. Well my smartness finally kicked in and I realized this wasn't the file room. I freaked out and ran. I am not one for dead bodies and such, but hey I wanted to be a nurse remember, ha ha. I went back to the nurses station and asked her what was she thinking sending me there and showed her the directions she had written me. Come to find out she left out a 1 on the floor number, HA.

So needless to say my nursing days were over after that scare. I did finish my candy striper term out, in the escort service. One perk to being a candy striper, free food with my best friend Jennifer. Oh and a new pair of high top white converse too.

Custom Embellishment Rings

Happy Thursday y'all! Here is my latest creation, Custom Embellishment Rings! The one pictured above is mine :) I can't tell you how many compliments I have gotten on this trendy little ring. It really is a showstopping piece if I might say. The ring is sterling silver and has fresh water pearls and crystal beads attached to the top. I am currently out of the solid sterling silver ring but I have a slew of other sterling silver rings that have scroll work on them, as seen below. Also I have some that are mostly solid but have a piece of scroll work on the side. I made one for a chick that had the scroll work on it and it turned out beautiful. I can have rings from size 5 to size 9.

Here is the ring with the scroll work and funky colored beads all around.

Here are some of the beads that I have used in making these beautiful rings. All beads are Czech glass, are vibrant in color and shine bright.

These beads are little squares and look very unique mixed with the round beads.

This mix has about four different colored beads. It has a matte topaz, clear topaz, a darker topaz and a light topaz. They look really stunning all together.

Here is one of my favorite mixes! I do have a Cherokee background so maybe that's why ;) This mix has an array of turquoise, black, red, brown, deep emerald green and two different light browns. This mix looks great with anything in your wardrobe!

Ahhh, the teal mix, reminds me of the beach. This mix has a metallic teal, a clear teal, a dark clear teal and goldish teal beads. You could actually mix some of these beads up with the Topaz mix.

The Hawaii mix reminds me of a lotus flower. In this mix there is light pink pearl, clear pink, dark hot fuchsia and black metallic beads. Very, very beautiful!

Here is another metallic square bead in pink. You could mix this with any of the beads I have listed here for a truly unique look.

This square metallic bead is really pretty, my picture doesn't do it justice. Again you could mix it with any of the beads seen above, especially the Topaz mix.

Here is another favorite of mine, the seafoam mix, very beachy. This mix could be mixed with the pink metallic square, the Topaz mix, the silver metallic square or you could make up your own design!

All rings will be custom made for you or whoever you are buying for. It will take about two weeks to get the ring made and shipped to you, probably sooner. I have had a really great time designing these beauties and know you will love your one of a kind ring. Each ring will come in a little silver box ready for gift giving or just to surprise yourself. And on this day 2 wee tots were adopted

Twelve years ago today Ronald aka "Wonald" and Elizabeth aka "Little Bird" officially became ours. After all paper's were signed, two little wee tot's were ours to take home and love. We had a splendid party and fun was had by all. There was a flushed faced baby running around eating cake, cookies and chips and wanting his "sissy" to hold him. A plump, bald headed baby was being held by everyone and laughing hysterically when tickled. That party was so fun and memories are forever en grained in my head. Most people think I don't know what it is to have a motherly love towards a child but I do. I was 16 when Ronald came into my life and for that moment on I found a new kind of love. A love where you don't get sick from poopy diapers or throwing up, someone ALWAYS excited to see you when you go to pick them up at pre-school, thinking you are the coolest person in the world and being your best friend. I have said before that I have a special bond with my baby siblings and that is true. My mom adopting these two precious gifts from God was the best thing that ever happened to us. I get a lot of "hmmpf's" when I say that I helped raise them, I guess people think that if you didn't actually birth them then you can't possibly have a undying love for someone. I was with them the day they came to us and stayed until the day I got married. I have been to numerous doctor's appointments, surgeries, pick up from school because your sick, the list goes on and on. My love for Ronald and Elizabeth is a second mama's love, my mom being the first mama, and will never change. I found a few pictures from the party we had and I can still remember the way they smelled as babies and rocking them to sleep at night. So in 12 years I have accumulated a slew of memories and a endearing love for two of THE most beautiful, sweet, smart, funny and God loving siblings I often call "my babies", because I am the second mama.

And 4 Little Chicky's Went Up to Heaven

( My sweet little Powder Puff as a wee tot, oh I miss you )

At 6:30 this morning a mean hungry owl came in and took four of my most beloved chickens, Chirpy, Patsy, Powder Puff and Georgia. I will not go into details but the crime scene is ugly. Chirpy put a grave fight to save the others. My favorite chicken, Patsy put up a fight too. They will be greatly missed! I am so glad I took pictures of them when they were wee tots. They were almost ready to lay eggs and to think these precious four never made it.

Sorry if you think this is lame, but I seriously loved my little chickens and hand trained them to eat out of my hand and to let me hold them. The eight that are left, are walking around the coop mourning I just know. They are all together in their little coop just looking out.

Well I need to go and help Mike bury them. Looks like we will be getting four more tomorrow to replace the ones lost.

My tips for a homemade Christmas, yes I know it's only October 14

Yes you read the title correctly, I have been preparing myself for Christmas early this year. Last year in the middle of December I decided I would hand make every one's gift, hahahahaha yes please laugh at me because I laughed at myself several times when rushing to make said gifts. This year is gonna be different and I am gonna tell ya how.

I don't know if its my age or what but I love the simplicity of Christmas. I love baking just for "us" or finding that perfect vintage gift for someone special. I totally detest shopping at the mall for gifts, unless someone has requested a special item and they want it desperately. Last year I wanted to make all my family members a homemade gift. I made ribbon wreaths, funky banners for display, my own collection of fave recipes and turned it into a cookbook, sewing kits, a painted Bird house with little glittery birds on the posts and heat sacks. I also went to vintage stores and thrift shops to find little odds and ends to top off the gift giving. The joy I found in making these said gifts was amazing, not only was it handmade but it was made by me. Everyone loved their gifts and displayed them throughout their houses. They also loved me and Mikes collection of recipes and have made most of them this year. You can make most of gifts if you find out what they like, need and love. It also saves a ton of money and time and gives you more time to "enjoy" the season.

Don't try to out do it by picking too hard of projects to make or something you've never made before. There are a slew of tutorials online and you can find a lot of neat ideas on Martha Stewart. This year I am making all the girls in my family a hand stamped piece of jewelry and a no knit scarf in their favorite colors. I am going to place their items in a funky revamped canvas bag. Yeah no wrapping!! For the fabulous men in my life, well that's a little tricky. My brother J.W, who just got his black helmet and graduated fire academy, I am thinking of making him a hand stamped dog tag that says firefighter with a cross over it. Last year I bought him a bible geared towards firefighters, he loved it. My baby brother Ronald will most likely get a dog tag necklace too and probably something from a vintage shop, he loves those places and I bought him a pocket watch from one last year that he picked out a week before. My dad, hmmm not sure what to make him but I'm sure it will come to me. Oh yeah and everyone will probably get a dozen eggs from our little sweet chickens.

Other items you could make would be friendship soup, with a wooden spoon, tea towel and a loaf of fabulous bread. Or you could make a topping for toast, yogurt or pound cake, again send a silver spoon and little directions. A personalized cookbook or calendar would be fun too. There is so much out there to be made and gave. Trust me it doesn't take a long to make if you start early. And your recipient will love you for it. So go out their ladies and trove through the craft store, vintage store, get supplies and start making those lovely gifts. Before you know it you will have made a much better gift than a store bought item that will likely be returned, not used, re gifted or sold at a yard sale, yes that does happen :)
