From the land of rain, rain and more rain

Well let's just say that North Carolina defiantly felt the remnants of tropical storm Fay. Yesterday as I was collecting on my machines and running here and there, Fay remnants decided they would play havoc on my day. At about 9:15 yesterday morning I was swept up in a whirlwind of rain and high winds, I literally could not see the car in front of me it was raining so hard. But I knew what to do thanks to my trusty Smith System that I go by everyday. I immediately turned on my flashers and lowered my speed, but I have to be kind because everyone does not know the Smith System, so as I watched in horror cars just racing by at speeds well over 10 mph I prayed for their foolishness. I then found comfort in the gas station parking lot as I pulled in to wait out the monsoon we were experiencing. On the radio there were tornado warnings everywhere and so I began calling my Mikey to make sure he was OK and to my mom to let her know since school might be letting children out because of the storms that were to last the rest of the day.

As the rain lightened up I noticed that my wiper blades were looking rather strange. The wind and hard rain had ripped one completely off. So I raced down to the Auto Zone and bought new ones so I could see the rest of the day.

As the afternoon progressed it got hotter and dark clouds began to form over the area. Severe thunderstorm warnings were popping up everywhere, as well as tornado warnings. I called my sister to make sure that she got off the bus safely and to make sure that they were hunkered down if there was severe weather headed their way. As soon as Mikey came home the bottom fell out and it rained well into the night. Well at about 3:00 this morning I woke up in horror as I remembered that there were flash flood warnings up in our area and I immediately thought of the lake about 100 feet by our house. I woke Mikey up in a panic and told him if the lake started to rise I wanted to leave but then I thought the lake is by the only road that leads us out of here and I started freaking out. Hence I didn't go back to sleep because I was too worried about being swept away by the lake and the fish in it. The rain ended soon as I fell back asleep and no I didn't get washed away.

To those of you that don't know what the Smith System is I will gladly let you know, because it will make you a smarter driver. When I met Mikey 4 years ago he was a FEDEX Ground contractor which means he owned a route there. He still did vending on the side but had to let his vending business go due to his fathers illness, so he sold equipment and bought 2 routes at FEDEX to make more money. Well I told him why not let me drive for the other route and then we don't have to hire anyone else. So I went to the wonderful FEDEX driving school were I made a 100 on the driving and written test, which they never gave me my certificate for (that's a whole other blog). The Smith System teaches you how to look at the drivers and the other actions around and in front of you so you will know what to do in the event of a crash up ahead or people crossing the road. I have found this to be very helpful and it has also made me have a little bit of road rage just because when someone cuts you off and you swerve in the other lane it's like did you not look or were you on your stupid cell phone not paying attention. I also have this motto: a car accident is not an accident it is a crash, and the reason I know this is because about 100% of the time most people are not paying attention and results in a crash. Because in true reality yes they did mean to hit your car because they were not PAYING ATTENTION. Just like the cars racing by yesterday in the raging storm. I honestly think when it rains people hit the stupid button.

FALL, OH HOW I LOVE THEE

In 4 short weeks I will be turning the big 28!!! Yes I am almost 30 and cannot believe it. This is my favorite time of year and not just because of my birthday. I love love love Halloween and Thanksgiving and the time leading up to Christmas Eve. Halloween has been my favorite holiday since I can remember. I can remember my decorating with witches, pumpkins, ghosts and making my costumes. My costumes were never store bought, my mom always made them and they were always full of GLITTER and SEQUINS, HAHA!!!. Well this year I might be at the beach for Halloween and go on the Ghost Walk in Wilmington. Who knows what will be lurking out there for all to see. HAHA!! Well I am off to find some vintage witches and cauldrons to decorate with this year.

Menu Plan Monday

This week I am trying something different to spice things up in my kitchen, just a little southern charm to my recipes. HAHA!!!

Monday: Home made pizza

Tuesday: My new recipe Mexican pie

Wednesday: Roast beef skillet with rice

Thursday: Breakfast ~ eggs, bacon and french toast

Friday: Ham and spinach pasta with baked pita bread and fruit

Saturday: Front St Cafe

Sunday: Silver Spoon after church

My Mexican pie is my new recipe this week. All you need is browned hamburger, black beans, diced tomatoes, corn, shredded cheese and salsa. Take 2 tortilla shells and line one on the bottom of a round baking pan and fill it with your goodies, then put the other shell on top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the top looks golden brown. Then add sour cream or anything you like on top. Hope you all enjoy!!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!!

As of September 1ST I will have my new website up and running, Fattycake Designs. I have tons of product just waiting to be showed off. I am specializing in handmade cards, tags, jeweled egg crates, my hubby's portraits, customized baby clothes, gift bags, hand stamped invites, fleece blankets and anything vintage. I am very excited about this new venture in my life and I hope you enjoy my creations as much as I do.

As I had said in the last few posts this year has not been the best but I knew God had something wonderful in store. He has blessed us with a new house, a growing business and let my artistic side of me come out of it's shell. On another note my dad and I have not had the best relationship in the past couple of months. He blames my husband for my appendix rupturing and does no support our vending business at all. I have tried to be calm and pray about the situation but I am finding that it gets harder trying to deal with him on a daily basis. So as a plea to all my fellow blogging friends, I ask that you please pray for my situation as is I need it in the worst way.

I cannot wait until you all see my creations, I am so excited. I am trying to get Mikey to start a website for his portraits but he doesn't want the hassle, so until I can talk him into it I will be hosting his fabulous portraits. I hope you all have a fabulous day!!

The end of summer ?

I don't know about you guys but I think the summer has flown by, it will be Christmas before you know it. I mean just last month was July 4Th and so very hot. I guess it feels like this because I was laid up for about two months when my appendix ruptured. We have only taken one beach trip and that was way too short. We have been so busy growing our business I guess the summer has just passed us by. My brother and sister start school in two weeks, wow. Well next month is my birthday and we are planning a trip to the beach for that and then we will be back in October for our 3rd anniversary. YAYAY!!! There's just something about summer that I just love, reading books by the pool, sand in between my toes ice cream and my little sister's birthday (she has always had a pool party, even when she turned one HAHAHA, I guess it's in her blood).

Well I'm off to go help Mikey load some video games and vending machines to take up to the auction sale tomorrow. We go every other month and have a blast. I love how Mikey gets so serious about bidding on equipment and then watching others get in bidding "wars". Too funny!! Hopefully we will find some unique and new equipment to put out on the route. In June there was a 1950's pinball that I wanted so bad, it had a beach theme and everything, but the owner decided he wanted it back, Mikey tried everything to get me that pinball but he wouldn't budge. So maybe I'll get lucky and find one tomorrow. Have a great weekend!!

Menu Plan Monday

Well here's yet another fabulous week of recipes:

Monday: Breakfast

Tuesday: Baked chicken with green beans and corn with buttered toast

Wednesday: Molly's famous nachos

Thursday: Submarine sandwich's with chips and fruit

Friday: Baked pork chops with mac and cheese and peas

Saturday: Auction sale for business, probably take out some where

Sunday: Well I am trying to be as good a Christian as possible but unfortunately after church we have to break bread with Mikey's lovely caring mother (not), oh the horror!!! So I will just grin and bare it and hope it ends soon. I really am a nice person but you have to understand Mikey's whole upbringing and how she didn't raise him and she ALWAYS calls wanting money or some form of a bail out.

My artwork

Hi!! I thought I would give y'all a sneak peak into my artwork before I reveal it next week. Last Christmas I made personalized calendars for my mom and sister. I took old photos of us and copied them and then cut the piece of the picture that I wanted out. I should have told you I copied the pictures in black and white so I could color in the white areas of the picture with different colors. I then took photo mount spray and applied them to what month I wanted them featured in. It was a "hit" as a gift and is very simple and fun to do. The hard part was picking out which photo's I wanted to use.

I also included a picture of my beautiful granny. This is a picture of her when she was over seas as a 1st lieutenant army nurse. I love her hair in this picture, she was very classy.

Giveaway

I just had to share this lovely picture of my sister. This was taken by my brother Ronald when they were at the pool last summer. I thought it was hilarious and could not wait to share with you all. Hence this might be her Christmas card for this year, let's hope not.

Happy Friday y'all!!!! I just joined a brand new website called SITS. SITS stand for "The secrets in the sauce", isn't that cute. That name reminds me of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes which I absolutely love (the movie and to eat). I have a button posted on my blog so please go over there and check them out, I think you will LOVE them. They have giveaways all the time and today is the last day to enter for their iPod giveaway, so hurry up and enter away ladies.

I have a ton of things planned this weekend, it's going to be super busy and fun. I am finally going to post my items for my Etsy page, finish my studio and hang some pictures up in my house. I am also going to post some pictures of my husband's photography. Mikey takes awesome pictures, he took some of the church down in Wilmington and you would have thought he had taken a photography class back in the day. I took photography in high school and loved it. Well I'm off to Sam's Club and I would pay in quarters today but I deposited all my money yesterday.
