Favorite place

Our awesome guide on the Ghost Walk Of Old Wilmington "Dreyfuss Wilder". We have actually become friends with him and he always give us first choice of which tour we would like, since there are 18 of them. Mike says when we move down there he wants to become one of the guides on the Ghost Walk.
Poodles oh how I love thee. These pictures don't do this store any justice.
This is her counter and on top of it is nothing but little pieces of glass and tile. It's so pretty and "beachy".
This is the horse drawn trolley that we ride every time we are there. I love it love it love it!!!!

OK so by now I hope you all know that my favorite place to shop in the whole wide world is Poodles Island Wear in Wilmington. Every time we go down there I always stock up on goodies and whatnots. Hopefully next year we will be living there, we almost have enough money saved up to pay cash for a house down on the beach. Well anyways we went down there this weekend and I purchased a few items that I am totally in love with. I have a few pictures of the inside of her store, need I remind that John Travolta's wife Kelly Preston shops there frequently. I love it!!! I love Wilmington so bad I would move there right now!!! I know I am a little obsessed about it , but if you just go there for five minutes you would be in love with the people and the atmosphere. I have more pictures of our trip that I will post later, but here are a few to keep you interested. As of now I am off to the bank and to call Clegg's since last night before we went to bed I saw a spider the size of my hand crawling out from under the stove and I had to have Mikey kill it while I watched in horror. HAHAHA!!!!

Rants and raves

OK so normally I am not like this but this week has not started off on the right foot. As you all know me and my husband own a vending and amusement company. That means we make our money by people putting in quarters, dimes, nickels and bills into our machines. So that means we sometimes use the money to buy product or gas in our truck and what not. So let me get to the point of this soapbox. Yesterday I go into Sam's Club to purchase two item's and I have my money bag with me so I decide to use the rolled quarters to buy my TWO items right. The cashier looks at me like I am crazy when I hand her ten dollars in quarters ,that I need to remind you are already rolled. She proceeds to tell me that she cannot accept them, well I return with "it's money and it spends the same as bills, debit and credit cards or checks". Now it's not like I don't spend five hundred dollars there a week in product. So anyways back to the cashier, she is still refusing to take my rolled quarters, so I ask to speak to the manager. Here walks this woman up to the cashier asking "what's the problem?". I intend to tell her my story and then the cashier chimes in with her story like it is some big scandal that I wanted to pay in ROLLED QUARTERS. So the manager proceeds to tell me that they can take the quarters this time only. Well at this point I am ticked, not only at the fact that I have waited for about fifteen minutes to check out but now I am being asked by "onlookers" if my business is profitable and how in the world do I pay my bills by making money from gumball and vending machines. Well I pay and leave and vow never to pay in quarters again, NOT. So to all you people that think gumballs and vending machines are not profitable your way way wrong. These machines have provided me and my husband a wonderful life and we continue to successfully grow our business because we love what we do and provide a fabulous service to all of our clients. On another note people please take a stand with me and pay with QUARTERS.

Apparitions and an old picture

Well normally I do not believe in ghost's but this past weekend my mom told me something very scary. Now she has not told my brother because he if he knew he would bolt out of there so fast you wouldn't have time to blink. My mom proceeds to tell me that last Thursday night as she was checking her email that out of the corner of her eye she sees something in the doorway of her kitchen. Well my mom turns and sees a apparition waving at her. Of course my mom loves this because she is fascinated with ghosts. So anyways she talked to it and it stayed there and just looked at her. I don't know if my mom had taken her medication yet. HAHAHA!!!!

On another note I found this picture of me and my hubby last summer at Yamoto's Japanese restaurant.

New hobby

Well I have found me the best hobby in the world..... sewing. I know what you are thinking, sewing. But for me, for someone that has never ever attempted to sew anything in her life yes. I absolutely love it and I am making some fabulous creations for my long awaited Etsy page that is already up and running but has no product. HAHAHA!!! I have constructed some easy pieces and some semi-hard pieces. My dear sweet husband took me to the Hancock Fabrics and let me pick all kinds of fun things. He even got excited about the fleece blanket I am making. HAHAHA!! I think he was a little more excited about than I was. I purchased a new sewing basket because the box at home was not going to hold all of my new purchases, which I got for 60% off. YAY!! I also purchased some design by the piece fabric in awesome designs and some fleece for my blanket. So I go home and organize all of it and decide that I am going to make my first handbag. I am almost done and I will post a picture of it after this weekend. I made it for my beach trip this coming weekend. I have been wanting a new bag but could not find one that I was "in love with" so I decided to make my own.

So now if I can get off on the right foot on this new sewing adventure that I am on that would be splendid. So now I am off to start cleaning my house and start packing for my long awaited beach trip. I can already smell the salty sea air and feel the sand and shells around my feet. I can not wait until October when me and my husband will take our annual trip down there for a week to celebrate our wedding anniversary, this year makes three fabulous years married and four years together. Oh "Mikey" how I love thee. HAHA!!!

Lost tickets and a busted lip

Well last night we were supposed to be hooting and hollering at WWE Raw at the RBC Center but instead we were trying to explain to a deaf child why we had to leave. All day long I kept watching my little brother and sister get their posters ready and get their gear on to go see Rick Flair and John Cena. When we arrived at the RBC Center me, my mom and my siblings got in line while my husband went to go retrieve the tickets at the box office. Well about fifteen minutes later I see my little bald headed husband just a huffing and puffing on the phone. The lovely customer service rep at ticket master had given us tickets for WWE Smackdown in Ashville NC. We live in Durham that's about five hours away!!!! Well we ended up at TGI Fridays vegging out. My sister which is eleven and has cochlear implants did not understand why we were leaving. So I tried my hardest to explain but that's really hard when she has limited language. Well it ends up that we are going to get our full refund back and we didn't have to show our true "Redneck" selves to get it back.

Now on to the busted lip.... my sister which is deaf ( I can't say that enough ) was trying to understand what my brother was saying and got frustrated and popped him in the mouth. Needless to say she got in trouble but again I would have loved to have had the customer service rep there to witness trying to explain why we had to leave last night.

Now hopefully the Lord will be with us and we can be able to go to the beach next weekend. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!

VINTAGE THURSDAY

I love love love anything vintage. Me and my husband go antiquing on the weekends looking for odds and ends. I have a whole kitchen full of items and I use them all. I have ice cream dishes, candy jars, salt and pepper shakers, bowls and vases. I am now looking for vintage pictures of the 1920's. I love the Art Deco era and the way ladies dressed. I am also looking for a vintage type writer, so if you know of any sites that them please let me know.

Also I am thinking of changing the name of this blog to my business name but I am not sure, so if you see any changes on here in the next couple of days don't be alarmed it's still me.

Old South

The Old South, yes that's where my family is from. Up until Friday I did not know that my grandparents were close friends with Senator Jesse Helms. Wow I thought to myself, as I sat there and pondered what my mother had just told me. I am not one to brag but I just feel that the world or whoever reads this blog needs to know how special, smart, worldly and noble my grandparents were. My granny, Elizabeth Broadwell Kale of Angier, NC was born on a tobacco farm. The house that she was born in is still standing today by the farm. She went off to college at Campbell University and then off to the army. Her brother Don joined and she thought since her brother had joined that she ought to enlist as well. She became a 1ST Lieutenant Army nurse and was very proud to have served her country in that way. I can remember as a little girl sitting up with her late at night watching MASH and her drinking black coffee. I love black coffee and I think its because it brings back these wonderful memories we shared together. She would tell me stories of her days in the army when we watched MASH. She never missed a day of church and I mean never. She was in the choir and would always sit beside me after she finished singing. I can remember her retirement party at Duke Hospital. I of course was going back for thirds to the buffet and getting pictures snapped of me and my granny and thinking she is so awesome. All of these doctors and fellow nurses crowded the room and honored her for her duty as an ER nurse. I can remember thinking wow she is the best thing since sliced bread. Soon after her retirement she passed of breast cancer. She never told my mother she had a lump. Oh granny and your little moo moos you used to wear around the house and your five course meals you would have at every sitting I love you more than ever and wish you were here. I have so many questions to ask you. I can almost smell your powder you used to wear and I loved your big "pockey book" that you carried everywhere you went. I loved going with you to the Big Star grocery store and you buying $500 worth of groceries every week and how you "needed" those family packs of Twix and Reese Cups. You are my best friend and I wish you were here so you could have my child's class over for a BBQ lunch every month. My granny would have my entire kindergarten class over for lunch every month in the driveway and I would always go and hide so I wouldn't have to go back to school.

My grandaddy Robert Glenn Kale was born in Watuga County, he was the baby of nine children. He payed his way through college by collecting coal from the trains. He graduated 1ST in his class at UNC Chapel Hill. He was a pharmacist and had his own drug store, Kale Drugs. My grandaddy was a smart man but he didn't have a lot of common sense. He was always trying to help people and had a huge heart. He would always play with me and do anything that I asked. I can remember making him play husband and wife with me, I know that sounds strange but it was fun. I would gather about 20 million baby dolls and go fill up his Dodge Plymouth and honk the horn for him to come out. We would pretend that we were driving to the store, gas station, park or restaurant. This would last about 20 minutes and then I got bored. I can remember this little yellow car he gave me for my birthday and rode till I fell asleep in it. He would come outside and sit with me for hours and watch me ride that little car. He was very frugal with his money, I remember he would only eat one half of a piece of bologna and my mother saying "daddy we have money to buy another pack of bologna". He would always eat a child's plate at his favorite restaurant Honey's. Oh grandaddy you were so cute in your dress pants and button down shirts. I still have your "hanky" and green cuff links with me.

My grandparents were lovely people to be around. You could always have fun and always have something to eat at their house. Granny and Grandaddy I wish you were here because I know we would have a lot of awesome times together.

A new day

Well last night we went to the ball park to watch the game and the fireworks. And it did not rain so we were good in that department. We actually got in free because you could take your tickets from Friday night and redeem them for new tickets. So we get there and its hot and muggy and I hate being sweaty. But it was fun to watch the game even though we lost, they played nine innings. The fireworks were beautiful and lasted about thirty minutes. My poor brother kept asking if it was going to rain and I kept reassuring him that if it looked like it was fixing to come up a storm then we would leave. My poor baby is now horrified all because the ball park does not have an emergency plan. Well I'm off to do laundry and clean my house, oh what fun :).

NO PHOTO'S AND A TRAMATIZED CHILD

Well we had an event full 4TH of July. We went shopping earlier in the day and then headed over to the Durham Bulls ball park to hear Kevin Costner sing with his band. The concert was really good and Kevin can sing really well. So anyways it had been a really hot day so we knew that it might rain or storm even. So as the concert went on the sky got darker and darker, then the bottom fell out. It started pouring and luckily we were seated in the covered terrace. Well everyone that was on the grass and not under the terrace ran towards us or went in through the tunnel. Well the lights went out so you can imagine an 11 and 12 year old being upset especially my sister being deaf and not knowing what is going on.

So we wait and the field lights come on and we decided to make our way to the car. Well to our surprise the lights were off in the breezeway. It looked like a war zone, everyone was pushing and shoving and wanting to get out, but there was no way out due to the breezeway being flooded. So I try to help my mom get everyone calm and by the wall, I went down the breezeway to see if we could get through and I was overwhelmed by the mass of people and how the "alcohol" had taken over. Well I go back and tell them lets wait and see if it clears out and then lets go, well we wait and wait and wait. Then the so-called workers and Durham's finest (police)
show up and start telling us to go back to the stadium and then they say no stay in the breezeway. I was like you know you have no plan what so ever to get people out without being trampled, mugged, killed kidnapped or picked pocketed.

So we finally start walking and we get to the parking deck where it is stand still traffic. You have guys yelling and honking the horn wanting people to move and it was total chaos. We decide to go wait in the lobby until it clears out.

Well we get to finally driving home and the neighborhood looks like a tornado has hit. Big, I mean huge trees were down and lights were out and it looks so scary. I have my little brother and sister in the backseat crying because they think Jesus has come to take his people and we didn't make it. HAHAHA!!! Please Lord don't ever leave me down here when you come. So we get to my mom's house and her power is off. She didn't get power until today because a tree had fallen and took down the line. Well my dad being a retired line man for Duke Power I have a special place in my heart for line men, because they risk their lives for us to get our power turned back on.

So now my baby brother and sister say they never want to go back to the ball park all because our lovely Durham Bulls ball park DOES NOT HAVE AN EMERGENCY PLAN. THANKS!!!!!!

I mean really, there was only over 1000 people there. Let's get real and do something and not just get paid to yell at people when you have an emergency like that and scare the hell out of precious children.

Well I could rant all night about how people should get priorities in check but unfortunately I have jury duty tomorrow and have to go waste my time there so.
