Autumn table and recipe swap

My table is little but I think it's cute.....
The little woman that you see there is made out of corn husks and the apron is vintage, late 1950's.
I made the cornucopia last fall and loved it. The bow on top is from a gift from our wedding, I like to intertwine things from the past and now.

My favorite recipe would have to be, Buttermilk Custard Pie, my granny used to make it and I love it.
All you need is: 5 eggs, 3 cups of sugar, 1 cup buttermilk, 4 tablespoons of flour, 2 sticks of butter, 1 tablespoon vanilla and 3 pie shells.
Beat eggs and sugar together. Add flour. Add all other ingredients. Then pour into pie shells and bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 60 minutes or until golden.
I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!!

One Tree Hill Oh How I love Thee

If you guys don't already watch it you need to. One tree hill it comes on Monday nights at 9:00 pm and is awesome. Me and my husband started watching it last season and fell in love with it. It is filmed here in Wilmington NC and that makes it even better. Me and my husband are always looking to see where they are and say "oooooh we have been there". If you don't already know by now, me and my husband LOVE Wilmington. We plan on moving there in about a year. Anyways this show is so down to earth and has "real" life situations instead of all the other shows out there that just glorify bad decisions and unrealistic story lines. So if you don't have any plans tonight please tune in to the CW channel and watch an awesome show.

Thankful Thursday

As I sit here typing I can only wonder how the next few weeks are going to go seeming as though the stock market could crash any day now, storms are popping up everywhere, the upcoming election and life just seems so abnormal. So instead of becoming glum and melancholy about how life is going and letting people take my joy, I will post what I am thankful for.

1. My husband for working so hard for his family.

2. My Church for being loving, caring and always reaching out to people.

3. My mom, brother and sister for always being there for me.

4. My dad, step mom and stepbrother for always listening.

And I thank God everyday that I am alive (since 6 months ago I almost died) and for all the blessings that he has given to me and my family. I could not walk this earth without him, he is my rock and my guidepost.

Thank you Lord for EVERY thing you have blessed me with!!!!

Simply Christian

I am back with week 3 of the simply christian bible study me and my husband are attending. This week we read chapters 3 and 4, they were about beauty and relationships. We all need relationships whether husband and wife, father and son, mother and daughter and so on. In that chapter it just explained the meaning of having relationships and how God created us to be with one another.

On my wordless Wednesday post I posted a picture of a lady posing in the late 1920's with the caption, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is about all aspects of life and how God created us in "his" image. One question from the study guide was to tell of the most beautiful thing you have ever seen or heard and to explain how it made you feel. I have two answers, the first time I saw my sister Elizabeth hear for the very first time in her life and watching her face light up that day made me feel that there is something much stronger looking over us each and everyday. The second answer was the first time I got to hear her make her first real sound, we were at the audiologist and she made the sound of an airplane, up until then all she would do was either sign, point or grunt. I absolutely love hearing her talk now that she has more vocabulary, her voice is so beautiful and heartwarming.

Today as I have been helping my husband do some errands and such I think about all the glorious things God has made in this world and how much I appreciate what he has done for me. I know sometimes it's hard but if you take a minute out of your day to just stop and look you might see or hear something so beautiful that it takes your breath away.

Happy birthday!!!

Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me!!! Yes today 28 years ago I entered this amazing, crazy and beautiful world. I have had many a wonderful party and some awesome cakes in my lifetime. My favorite birthday cake was the one my dad bought me, it had ballerinas and big flowers all over it. I loved it and kept every single one of those ballerinas to play with. I can remember streamers, balloons, party hats and lots of icing. But the best part of all my birthdays past, is my family. I have partied all weekend and have been the recipient of some very lovely gifts. My dad gave me a Sapphire and diamond pendant necklace, he also knows my obsession for chickens, so he gave a beautiful little chicken dish and took me to the Homestead for dinner. My mom and sister went in together and gave me a sewing machine. YAY!!! And last but not least my sweet husband Mikey gave me a handmade birdhouse and a new purse. The birdhouse is made by a sweet lady Karen Dillard, she makes them from recycled wood, tin, and other items she can find. I have heard through the grapevine that my little sister and brother have handmade me something so I am very excited to see what their little hands have created.

Well I am very excited to have made it another year. My past year was kinda rocky with my appendix rupturing in April and moving earlier this year. I hope to make this year the best since after 29 comes 30. Yikes! Have a great day I hope to get some cake soon. HAHAHA!!

Ten years???

Whoa how time flies!!!!! Ten years ago this month I was turning 18 and a senior in high school. I always thought everyone was way older than me and I would live forever. So not the case indeed. I am now 27 and will be 28 on Tuesday and I can only tell myself, "yes Molly you are still young" HAHAHAHA. I have contacted some of my friends from high school but we rarely keep in touch since our lives are busy. My circle of friends has changed dramatically since high school. We have done things that we thought others wouldn't and changed in many ways. I sometimes wish we were back in those carefree days and didn't have to think about all the adult things we now face. But then we would not be who we are today. I have defiantly changed since my days of yore, I used to always care what people thought about me and how I dressed, what car I drove and what I would be "when I grew up". Now I could care less what people think, I barely wear makeup during the week when I work, I sometimes miss match clothes ( whatever is clean ), I drive a 1992 Honda Accord named Maude and a P1000 step van (which looks like a UPS or FEDEX truck ) when I work with my husband and last but not least I never thought I would be making money by vending machines, gumballs and video games. It's funny where life takes you, especially when you think you have it all planned out.

Looking back on the last ten years I have seen mistakes I have made and decisions that have changed my life forever. But I would never change it because I would not be where I am today.

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!!!!

Simply Christian

As promised from last Wednesday, last night we had our second bible study on Simply Christian by N.T Wright. Honestly this book is so amazing, it simply tells the truth about how the world is today. Here are some questions from the study guide that we discussed last night:

1. Can your remember a time in your life that God spoke to you through nature?

(IE. You prayed about something and it started to rain or the sun came out, etc)

2. Do you remember a time when you really wanted to feel God's presence in your life?

These were just two of the questions that stood out to me last night. It was very insightful to hear every one's stories about their experiences and the scriptures we read. I can not put this book down, it is truly amazing. It makes you look at how the world is so full of evil and how people do not stand up for what they believe in.

Please feel free to leave me comments on how you have experienced God in your life, I would love to hear them.

Menu plan Monday

Well here is another fabulous week of yummy food.

Monday: Steamed veggies with cornbread and salad

Tuesday: Sub sandwich's with chips

Wednesday: Ham and spinach bake with salad

Thursday: Breakfast: eggs, bacon and toast

Friday: Chicken wraps with chips and salsa

Saturday: Birthday dinner at the Homestead

Sunday: Grayson's Cafe after church

Honestly???

Can I please get a big round of applause for the big wigs that JACKED the price of gas up!!!! I mean honestly is it really worth it, I don't think so. Friday when all the hype was about hurricane Ike hitting Texas, everybody and their momma ran out to get gas, because there was speculation that we might have a shortage. Well our dear friends at the oil company decided to gauge us for every cent we earn. $4.21 and $5.45 were the prices I saw and I just do not understand how these people can lay their heads down at night knowing what they are doing to the American public. Everybody should have taken a stand and not bought gas Friday but no every went into panic mode and the hurricane had not even hit. But that leads me to think, Where are we really getting our gas from?. HUH!! I mean one day they talk about it coming from Iraq and then all of a sudden a hurricane is coming and it's making the price go up. Come on now really people. Our government is so corrupt and not honest. If I ran for president I guarantee you I would be assassinated. I would stop all this ridiculous war, price gauging, people living off the system (that I know can work ), buying items from over seas and start working our own land and giving honest people jobs. Oh I also forgot, I would send all the illegals back to where they came from and anybody that wanted to come live here, number one thing would have to SPEAK ENGLISH. I do not understand why you would put someone in the drive thru that does not speak a lick of English.

I thank you all for hearing me out and I hope I don't walk over any one's toes, but that is the way I feel and quite frankly I'm sick and tired of working my buns off for it to go to the gas tank or my taxes to go to someone that lives off the system.

I heart Elizabeth and Ronald

Elizabeth and Ronald how I love thee....... My sweet little brother and sister. My little sister Elizabeth is so cute, when she found out that I was making baby clothes and what nots for my Etsy page, Fattycake Designs, she decided to jump on the band wagon too. Elizabeth is 11 and has a God given talent in art and dance. She is deaf and I believe that if God takes one of your five senses he makes the other four stronger. Her etsy page, Summer Pig Designs will be launching the same week as mine. So you will have to stop by and see her creations, I love them and I know you will too. My baby brother Ronald is also doing some new things this fall as well. Ever since he could talk he has wanted to be a jewel smith, he loves anything that glitters and shimmers. This fall he is learning all of the stones and their origins. He has promised me a handmade piece of jewelry for Christmas, I can't wait to see what his little hands create.

On another note yesterday was 9/11 as many of you know and I just didn't feel like posting anything sad so I talked about Ella and Charlie my ducks. But last night I watched some very sad unseen footage of that fateful day and it made me think of where I was when it happened. I had just dropped my little brother off at school and was on my way to my mom's salon and heard that a plane had hit one of the towers. I was very confused and wondered why that had happened and as I arrived at the salon my friend Llewellyn called and told me everything. I was scared and thought that the world was coming to an end. Well about an hour after it happened school was let out so I went and picked up Ronald and Elizabeth( she was at our church daycare) and went home. Ronald was asking all sorts of questions and I was trying to answer them as best as I could to a six year old. Yesterday Ronald asked if I knew what today was and I said yes it's 9/11. He then said "Molly you know when you picked me up from school and then we got Lizzy from church I felt safe with you and never wanted you to leave my side". Well I started crying and asked him why he had not told me and he replied "because I knew you would cry". He also did not know that most of the fire fighters had died, he thought they had been rescued. Isn't it amazing how little children can sense emotions and know when something horrible has happened but they still have that innocence about them.

Most of you don't know but I mostly raised my brother and sister so we have a special bond that most people do not understand. I love them like they were my own children, I know that sounds weird but I do. My mom was a foster parent and we got Ronald and Elizabeth as babies so I know all about the night feedings, diaper changing and caring for them. Sometimes I look back and think how my life would have been if we had not adopted them and I say nope I would not change a thing.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Ella and Charlie

Ella and Charlie are my ducks that live on my farm with me. I love, love, love them. They are always pecking at seeds and walking by the lake. On most mornings I feed them our bread scraps and some cookie crumbs. Their life is so simple, walking around all day on a farm, eating, relaxing by the lake or just sitting by my doorstep waiting for Gypsy and Savannah to come out for their walk. I have always lived in the city but until six months ago when we decided it was time to move, we opted for a slower pace in life. I can honestly say that living in the country is divine, I wouldn't change it for the world (well when we move to Wilmington). I would post a picture of Ella and Charlie but my husband deleted the pictures I had of them on mistake, so I will get one this weekend and post it for all to see.

Simply Christian

Last night was the first night of our nine week bible study of Simply Christian and I loved it. I feel so blessed to have a fabulous study group. My study group is a mixture of our Sunday school friends and a couple of others from the church. Our group leaders are our dear friends Harriett and Winslow, I absolutely adore them. They are just like me and Mike but older (HAHA), sorry Harriett and Winslow. This is my first bible study and I hope to get to know my Sunday school friends a little better and to deepen my walk with Christ. I will post each Wednesday some of our study guide questions and answers just so you all can a see a little more of this awesome study.

And as prayer wise goes, my dad has come back around with a new outlook on life and I am thrilled to know that God is working in his life. I understand his depression about having MS and not being able to work and having to retire so early in life. I am just so excited that he isn't lashing out anymore and I have forgiven him and hope that our relationship deepens as time goes on.

The Lord works in mysterious ways and I am so proud to have the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Thankful Tuesday

I thought I would post a little note on how much I thank God for all the blessings that he surrounds me in. 1. My husband Mikey, for being so kind hearted and loving

2. My little sister Elizabeth, for showing the world that being different ROCKS!

3. My little brother Ronald, for wanting to be a jewel smith when he grows up and always being so kind hearted toward your foes.

4. My mom, for always being there when I need you.

5. My dad, for giving great advice and listening.

6. My step mom Kim, for always showing your love and affection for me.

7. My stepbrother JW, for always chasing your dreams and staying true to your roots.

8. My sister Miranda, for being you and ALWAYS sticking up for me.

My family is big and diverse but I love it and wouldn't have it any other way. Life is too short to always think about what happened in the past. I have learned to move on from that and have deepened my relationship with my family. Everyone is always going to have a different egg and not be of the norm but that's life. Sometimes you take for granted what you have in front of you and then realize it when it's too late. There is drama, depression, deafness, ADHD, a football star, the peacemaker, the listener and the kindhearted.

Sometimes you just have to love it.

Fingerprints of God

I am a fellow reader of the AGD blog and love it. Angie is so upbeat and always has a beautiful lookout on life. Well today she posted about the fingerprints of God in her life and I was very touched. So I thought I would share my fingerprints with you all.

I have always said that my husband is my life and my being of everything. I can truly say that he is does everything with God by his side. He has touched me in ways that I cannot explain. He is so honest and kind and would give you his last penny (which he has).

During our recent bible study we are currently doing at church, I have seen a side of him that is truly unbelievable. He has deepened his walk with Christ and it shows. I can only imagine what that feels like.

In the past 3 years that we have been married I have fallen in love with over and over again. He provides me with a lovely home, a loving and TRUSTWORTHY relationship and first and foremost he loves God.

I hope you all can find the fingerprints of God in your life today.

Have a great weekend and lets hope tropical storm Hanna doesn't do as much damage as I think she will.

"I made it with my own two hands"

Well well well ladies I have accomplished something that I thought was completely out of my creativity range HAHAHAHA!!!! I love entering the swaps that are going on in the blog world, so last month I thought it would be a fun idea to join a apron swap. So I set out to find my pattern and fabric and embarked on a very fun journey. It only took me 2 weeks to make and I did it all by hand. My hubby is going to buy me a sewing machine that also does embroidery as well. YAYAY!!!! Well I am off to the market to fetch some goodies to ride out the tropical storm and hope my power does not go out.

Favorite finds

I absolutely love the new styles for the Crocs line of shoes for fall.

OK so this weekend I have a wedding to go to and I was completely puzzled when it came to what I should wear. Well my sister had bought this beautiful blue linen top that turns out that she did not like after she brought it home, so she gave it to me. I love, love, love it!!! So now I don't have to go shopping in a hurry tomorrow and all I have to find now is some strappy sandals, a new piece of jewelry and a new hand bag.

Well I am off to finish my apron for the apron swap that I am in so..... Oh and yes I am bracing for hurricane Hanna!!!
