Thumbing with granny's pocket book

One warm summer morning two little girls awoke to the smell of a scrumptious breakfast. (yes unfortunately when I was little food was a very important factor in my life) They walked into the kitchen and ate eggs, bacon, toast, sliced tomatoes, grits and sausage. (yes I was chubby HEHE) They then got dressed and proceeded to play barbies, run through the clothes hanging on the line outside and go in the attic to play school. Well after lunch, which was tomato sandwiches and chips I remember this day fondly, their granny was watching her famous soap operas and snapping beans. The two sisters got her pocket book and walked down to the corner, which was only one house down and thumb for a ride. Well here comes granny's bridge game friend and said " you better get back in the house before I call your granny". Well they went back to the house and acted like nothing had happened. So a little later their granny comes into the den and says so and so had called earlier and told her what had happened. So granny attempted to put them in time out but it didn't last long cause supper was ready and they were hungry.

I don't know where those little girls were going with granny's pocket book full of credit cards to any store in the world but they were going somewhere. Funny how the smell and feel of the summer time air can spur up memories. I have a ton more stories of my times past that I will share with y'all later, especially ones that include paint and running in the backyard naked HAHAHAHAHA.

Late night post

OK so I know I'm a tad bit late with my word of the year but don't go to judging OK OK HAHAHAHAHA.

Word of the year is.........Dream

What are your dreams, goals and what nots??? Mine I have a few: 1. have a gumball machine in every establishment I walk in, shop and what not 2. get closer to God 3. loose some of this marriage weight ( although Mike likes it ) 4. grow my little sewing business ANd last but not least 5. get some piers at the beach and set them with some rockin equipment. All these can be achieved if I keep my faith in Christ and work my fanny off.

Preparing for Lent

As I pondered last night on what to give up on my 40 day journey through Lent, I came up with a few items.
1. give up lunch ~ I don't really eat lunch anyway so why not do it
2. give up an hour of computer time ~ I spend about 2 hours on the computer a day either blogging, or checking on my web page so I am going to do all that in one hour, ( wish me luck )
3. devote more time to Christ ~ Me and Mike already have a 90 minute bible study each night together but I am going to devote a whole hour in the morning to Him with a study on Esther.
4. give up worrying (hope I spelled that right) ~ I will give all my problems to Christ and let my life be worry free. Its a sin not to trust God, so why not give him my worries. He has my life planned for me and I know he will never leave me or let me down.
5. give up my chocolate ~ I usually have a Hershey kiss a day, so I need to let that go.
I know my 5 things to give up might seem a little ridiculous but that's all I have right now. I already live a simple life, I'm not sure what else I could live without. I am sure through my 40 days of deep thought and giving of my whole self, I will find more. I would like to thank Edie of lifeingrace blog for helping me decide to participate in Lent and for uplifting me daily. Please go visit her blog for an honest and uplifting enjoyment. I cannot tell you all of how many people I have met in blog land that have touched my heart and made me a better person. So thank you to you all and thanks for being my "blog" friends.
Just a thought to ponder Proverbs 11:24,25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more. Another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

My new motto

Hey y'all my family's new motto for me is "when you come into town...". HAHA yes, I live about 45 minutes from them now and that's what they say, they even have Mike saying it, HEHE. I feel like that old lady in the shoe with all those kids except I have no kids but 2 dogs and a bunch of sewing and gumball machines to keep me happy. OK just thought I'd share that funny with y'all. Have a great evening and I am still going to share the new creations tonight.

Omelette Love

Here is my famous recipe for making the best omelette in the world. I call it Omelette Love: 1 egg per omelette

cheese ( shredded )

diced tomatoes

crumbled sausage

spinach

splash of milk per egg being beat

OK so beat eggs one at a time if your making multiple omelette's and add a splash of milk. Melt some butter in a pan and then pour the egg mixture in pan. I like to keep my pan on medium heat that way you don't burn your egg. Then when your egg is almost finished ( you can tell when the the sides get a little crispy ) add your tomato, cheese, crumbled sausage and spinach and fold the other half of the egg over. Then let warm a few minutes and serve with toast and pink butter . And just in case you forget how to make pink butter here's the recipe again: Pour heavy cream into a clean jar, add a couple drops of red food coloring. Then put the top on the jar and shake until cream turns into butter.

Oh and here is the scripture verse that I found today that has stuck with me throughout the morning: Hebrews 13:5,6

I will never fail you.

I will never forsake you.

That is why we can say with confidence, The Lord is my helper,

So I will not be afraid.

What can mere mortals do to me?

P.S Stop back tonight for a peek of my new apron creation and a sweet clutch.

I am working on a cook book of all the recipes that my granny made. I have her famous index cards that she took the time to actually type the recipes out on and are shuffling through them. A funny

OK so here's a funny I thought y'all would enjoy.

One summer day back in the late 80's two little girls decided to get creative. They walked into the shed in the backyard and got a pail of black paint and a brush. They then went into the back of the driveway and decided to paint themselves black. Their intentions were to see what they looked like when they took their clothes off. Now back in the house their grandaddy was napping. The two girls had been outside for a while when their grandaddy awoke. When he went looking for them he was shocked at what he saw. He then burst out in laughter and tried to help them wash the paint off. To their surprise, their dad was coming over for a visit. As he pulled up he tried to see what was going on in the back. He then realized and got a little mad but then knew the two girls were a little crazy and wild. So he started laughing and helping wash them off. Well the paint didn't come all the way off and they had to go to school with black paint on their legs, arms, and face. Their mama was mad as ever and huffed and puffed for days. The two girls loved playing with each other, but most of they loved each other.

Miranda thanks for always being funny with me and for being my sweet little sister.

Happy Birthday Mikey

Today my sweet little husband is 32!!! YAYAYAYAY!!! I am making his favorite meal which consists of BBQ pork chops ( the BBQ sauce has to be Carolina Treat, his fave), green beans and mashed potatoes, oh and a little cake ( he likes red velvet ).

Thirty two years ago my future husband was born. His grandmother would raise him although his mother and father all lived in the same house. Three years later his brother was born, but only lived to be 14 because he died of Leukemia. Mike and his brother Terry actually started the gumball business that we run successfully today. It was originally called PearceBrothers but Mike changed it when he met me ( I know its, sweet). Mike didn't have the same upbringing like me but that's why God put us together, because your upbringing makes you who you are. So anyways Mike lived in a little trailer down in Benson North Carolina and loved to play for hours outside with his Tonka trucks and his brother. He came to Christ when he was 13 and loved going to church. When he was 18 he moved to Carolina beach, which is only about 20 minutes from Wilmington. He came back to Benson in 2003 to take care of his dad when he had a heart attack. To make ends meet for his family he sold off most of his equipment and got a full time job. When his dad pasted away in December of 2003 he was on his way back to the beach. Four months later we met and have been in separable ever since. This man is the most kindest, loving, giving and God loving man I have ever met. I don't understand how his mother doesn't see that but she has missed out on having a beautiful relationship with him. Everyone that meets him loves him. He is the only man that I know that can start a conversation with a stranger anywhere he goes, oh and he loves office supplies. I should probably tell you he is in love with wrestling. His brother in law is Jay Youngblood and when Mike was little he would let him ring the bell at the Dorten Arena and hang out with the wrestlers in the back. He loves Ric Flair and he told me last week that he used to have two dogs, one named Ric and the other named Flair. HAHAHA!!! He's too cute. I can't tell you how much I love this man, we do everything together. The best thing that I love about our life is that we get to work together everyday. Most people have asked me if he or I gets on each others nerves and they are very surprised when I say no. Mike has a love for the beach like no other. We go there every chance we get and are planning on moving there in the next year. He jokes and says our baby is going to come out with a bathing suit on, HAHA. The beach is in his blood and you can't blame him for loving it.

Happy Birthday my Mikey!!!! I love you with all my heart!!!!!

Children of the Appalachia need our help

My heart is totally breaking this morning as I eat my grits and drink my milk. How did I get so lucky when some are less fortunate than I? I don't understand, so I guess that's the many questions I ask God to help me with on a daily basis. In the past year and a half my faith has grown deeper with my Father. Last April I nearly died because my appendix ruptured and my faith in God was renewed. As I lay in the bed at home healing for nearly 3 months I would talk with him, read his word and thank him for letting me live so I could do what He intended with my life. Since that time I have had this feeling of wanting to minister to people about Gods word and will. Me and Mike's relationship has deepened and we now have our nightly bible study which usually last about 90 minutes. We have redone our budget so that we could donate more money to people in need and totally turned our life and marriage over to God. If you would have said this to me about 10 years ago, I would have been selfish and wanted to do things my way not His. Last fall me and Mike attended a bible study at our dear friends house and they suggested Mike become a pastor. Ever since then Mike makes comments on how he would love to minster to others but doesn't know which path to go on, so we pray that God would lead us in the right direction.
Last night we watched the Diane Sawyer 20/20 special on the Children of the Appalachia, I cried the entire time. The stories of these families broke my heart and made me appreciate what I had. There is really only coal mining, convenient stores and fast food places for these people to work at. So most people resort to drinking, selling prescription drugs, stealing from their own families ultimately resulting in family feuds and fighting. Most kids drop out of high school and dig for coal illegally on the side of the highway to heat their homes with. Most people don't have health insurance and so they suffer. Most kids have poor teeth and their parents have none.
There is government assistance with food stamps and welfare but that's all. There is not one person up there trying to teach these people new trades or the latest technologies. There is a dental bus that comes through and gives free dental work for the kids and there is clinic that you can pay what you want when you are seen there. Most kids are in and out of foster care and have to take care of their parents because they are drinking and doing drugs.
As the show was coming to an end Mike said to me, " why isn't there anyone doing missions or sending money to these people?". That is a good question, the only missions that are going there is http://www.shelterock.org/ and they go everywhere across the country. I'm not saying that that's bad, it's great but I was disturbed at our country as a whole. We are so into going overseas and helping these people and trying to give them schools, teaching them trades, food and shelter, that we have abandoned our own. I think its sad that we don't do more for "our" people. Why can't my church have a mission team go there and minister and teach them how to read since most of them don't know how. I was appalled yesterday when I heard that people were emailing Good Morning America and saying how they hated the poor and the poor didn't need to have children if they couldn't afford them. This hatred has got to stop, we need to help each other. Why do people judge one another, why not help them. I believe that if there were teams up there ministering and teaching these people, that they could get out of poverty.
Me and Mike have decided that we are going to re-do our budget again so that we can sponsor a few people. I believe that God is speaking to us throughout this world, with fires, storms, deaths and this new president. We have got to get more people to become Christians, I believe that the world would become a better place. So if you feel inclined to help these people, please visit http://www.shelterrock.org/ to read more about people in poverty and to maybe sponsor someone.

OOOHHH Friday the 13Th

OK so back in the day anytime me and my friends were celebrating Friday the 13Th, we always went and rented cheesy movies or went to grave yards to scare ourselves. One night we went to eat at the famous Darryl's ( now closed ) we liked to sit in the jail cell booth and flirt with the waiters and what not, we then went to a grave yard down the street because my friends were always trying to scare me. So we get there and my friends Mary is trying to find some grave, I don't even know if it was legit. As we find this so called headstone all of a sudden a homeless guy gets up from a grave about 2 graves down and we bolt like lighting. We all pile up in Jaime's Maverick and haul tail. Hence we never did that again but we did have some fun times. Most of my Friday nights were of us friends going to get some yummy food and renting movies or egging bad boyfriends cars and almost getting caught. Oh to be young again.....

Anyways I no big plans tonight to try and scare myself but I just chatted with my old schoolmate on facebook about our old days of scaring each other and what not and thought I would share with y'all.

Oh lordy be enchila(deee) stoup and Emme

Hello friends I thought I would share me and Mike's favorite stoup (not thin enough for a soup and not thick enough for a stew). HEHE
Anyways here's the scoop on my famous enchiladeee stoup (private joke between me and my sweetums). OK so you take your day or two old enchiladeee mix that you have already used for nachos and what nots and add it to your pot. Then add a can of corn and chicken stock and let it get to a boil. Then add two teaspoons of salsa and about 4 teaspoons of cheese sauce. Let simmer a few minutes and tada you have echiladeee stoup. Now I add a cheese quesadila ( whatever I think I spelled that wrong and spell check isn't helping ) and tortilla chips for ya to dip. Now enjoy with the one ya love.

Now meet my new friend I bought via Ebay. I named her Emme and she gets a new "get-up" daily, whether it be some jewels, fabric pinned on her or a new purse that I have made. We have became the best of friends since she can't look better than me and she doesn't talk. HAHA!! I'm not conceited I swear. Later on this week she will be sporting a new apron I have been working for the studio, so check back to see her model it.

Happy Birthday Ronald

Thirteen years ago this precious baby came to our house, actually he came to my mom' s salon. My mom had become a foster parent and was considering not taking anymore children but we got the call that a baby had been left alone for 24 hours and they needed a home for it. So my mom called them back and said yes bring the baby to my salon. It was a cold rainy night and a car pulled up in the parking lot. The social worker took out a baby seat and laying in that baby seat was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen. All Ronald had to his name was a onesie, 1 diaper and a half empty bottle. When we got Ronald inside I was in love. Who in their right mind could leave such a precious baby alone? But you would have to hear his mother's story and I won't get into that. So me and my mom and our new baby ran over to the Walmart because it was like 10 o'clock at night and bought him all kinds of goodies. We adopted him and Elizabeth one year later.
As Ronald grew we became the best of friends. In high school he would come at the ripe old age of 1 and hang out with all the band parents and he became the "band baby". He was at all my games and loved my band uniform and hat because it had a feather on it. I also took photograpghy in high school so he was always my model and loved to pose for me. The two top pictures I actually took of him in high school. When I got my license I would pick him up from nursery school and we would sometimes go get ice cream or do our frequent drugstore run to get candy and drinks. I always tease him because when he was a little fella he would always strip down to his diaper and socks when he walked through the door. Ronald was always my shopping buddy and would even go with me to the nail salon. He always told me what outfit looked good and which one didn't, he's a great little fashionista.HEHE. This precious baby is a gift from God.

Ronald was my body guard and defended me of all bad boyfriends. He would often tell me "you want me to get em". Little did he know that he was my boyfriend, my best friend. Our Saturdays consisted of watching Power Rangers, shark movies, scary movies, strowing all his little cars and army men over the floor and making a big breakfast. I so miss those days since I got married. When I met Mike, Ronald fell in love him as did Mike. I remember the one time Ronald rode with Mike in the big FedEx truck, he sat under the shelves and loved it. He wanted to go with Mike on his deliveries the next day but couldn't. Mike wanted Ronald to be his best man at our wedding and so he was. Ronald didn't like the tails on the tux I picked for him but he was mighty cute in it.

As you all know Elizabeth is his sister. She was born just under a year after we got Ronald, so it's like we have twins, partner's in crime. Ronald has always been the best big brother. When we learned that Elizabeth was deaf, we all took sign language. Ronald picked it up so well and even helped me learn. It is so funny to watch them sign together, because most of the time their up to no good. Ronald has always been Elizabeth's interpreter at school or church. He's so cute when he's trying to tell someone what she wants or helping her say a word or phrase. He will be a Awesome man one day. One day I was cleaning up the house and noticed it was very quiet, well when I found them they had taken a whole dozen eggs and thrown them against the wall in the den and were laughing quietly the whole time. That took forever to clean up. When Ronald was 2 or 3 he loved going through my makeup bag and looking at all the colors. When he picked the mascara he asked me what it was and I told him. To this day he still calls mascara "eyescara", too cute buddy. One day when we were getting ready for church I was looking for my mascara and couldn't find it. Then I heard this cackling laugh coming from Elizabeth in the living room. So I run in there and Ronald had brushed Elizabeth from head to toe in mascara. The bristles on the brush were tickling her and she was laughing so hard. When Ronald was baptized I cried. He had made the decision over vacation bible school to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. In his testimony he thanked me for making him who he was and for taking the time to teach him things. He was 8 and knew how much I and Jesus loved him.

This past summer Ronald went with me to fill some of our vending machines and loved it. He kept wanting to put the drinks and snacks in the machines and helping me count the money. He asked if he could work for us when he got older. I told him yes and then he asked how much he was gonna get paid, I laughed. Oh Ronald my sweet baby boy I love you so much. You are so smart, so giving, so loving and you have the biggest heart of anyone I know. I have cherished our fun times together and can't wait for more. You are the best brother anyone could ask for. I hope one day you will see just how beautiful and loving you are.

Happy Birthday Ronald Kale-Ladd Lopossay!! Me and Mike love you more than you know.

Happy Birthday Mama

Happy birthday MAMA!!! Yes my friends today is my mamas birthday and on Wednesday it is my little brother Ronald's birthday and next Tuesday it is my hubby's birthday. Whew.. I know what a fun filled month February is, oh and don't forget Val Day on Saturday.

On February 9Th 1956 little Cynthia Kale was born. My granny Elizabeth Kale and my granddaddy Glenn Kale adopted my mom a few months later and brought her home. My mom was in the Greensboro Children's Home and my grandparents wanted a baby so they picked my mama. I am so glad that they adopted her because I would have never gotten to know them if they hadn't and really people I would have been missing out.My grandparents were givers and God loving people and always had a spread of goodies to eat when you arrived at their home. I can only imagine the baby shower my granny received when she adopted my mom. My mom has a baby shower invite that she framed and it has a cute little 1950's looking baby on the front. My mom went to ECU, then beauty school, then married my dad and then went to Durham Tech to become a drafter(which is you get to draw drafts of buildings and what not). So my mom is a woman of many traits. After my granddaddy died she decided to become a foster parent and that's how we got my baby brother and sister. My mom always volunteers too much and wants to give everyone and thing a home, so I guess she got it honest because my grandparents were the same way. So here's to you Mama, I hope you have the best birthday in the world and I have some goodies for you later. I love you very much and thank God everyday for all the things you have taught me. Oh and don't forget like mother like daughter we both can do a mean roller set and back tease, oh and a Page Boy Flip ( I remember that one in beauty school ). Love ya mama.....

Is it bad to eat a fudge pop at 8 AM?

Is it bad to eat a fudge pop at 8AM? I was craving some chocolaty goodness and that just had to have it , I'm sure Denise Austin or Jenny Craig would disapprove.

I have some new designs that will hit the studio this weekend that are over the top. I have some Valentine's goodies and some sparkly stuff to strike your fancy.

Did you know that February was national Cherry month? Me neither. So go and bake some cherry pies or make some chocolate covered cherries. YUM!

There will be a giveaway soon to celebrate my 200TH post. I am thinking of doing a few to lead up to the big day of 200TH post, so stay tuned for details.

If you hadn't heard please visit John Haggee's website for some rocking sermons and a heartfelt message from his wife Dianna, she needs our prayers!!

Have a blessed weekend and peek in tomorrow for some photo's of the new stock hitting the studio. My new motto is why have Coach when you can have Little Sundays! HEHE!

My new love ULTA

ULTA, ULTA, ULTA!! I have been in love with ULTA for 2 years and am still in love. This place is a make-up, hair and perfume lovers HEAVEN. They carry any and all brands of anything your girly girl's heart desires. I recently got hooked on the ULTA Mineral make-up and their super shiny lip gloss. On Sunday as I was getting ready for church, I dropped my mineral foundation all over the bathroom and nearly died. Mike walked by and said 'what are you doing?'. I looked at him like you think I wanted to drop my foundation all over the floor, but to my rescue he took me by ULTA to get a new one and I fell in love with him and ULTA again. I also picked up a bottle of OPI's new south beach nail polish line in Party in my Cabana and Conga-line Coral, so HHOOOTTT! So if you are in need of a new makeup line I highly recommend the ULTA Mineral makeup and if you need a hot new color for spring or to just get rid of the winter blues, paint your nails in Party in my Cabana or Conga-line Coral. Have a fantabulous day!!

My love affair with MEP

In 14 days the LOVE of my LIFE will be turning 32!!! YAY!! Mike!! We usually don't get each other gifts for birthdays, Valentines and any other quirky holiday that is supposed to be celebrated VIA gift. So as I look back on our almost 5 years together, I can see how I am the most luckiest gal in the world to have been chosen by Mike to spend the rest of his life with. For Christmas I wrote him a letter and told him how much I loved him and what he meant to me and what not. He supposed to write me one but he didn't finish it, he says I should receive it on Valentines day. I know Mike and he writes extremely LOOONG letters so I know this will be good. On our first Christmas together we wrote letters to each other and he was still writing his to me on Christmas day! It was a 5 page letter telling me how he had prayed for me for years and that when he saw me for the first time he knew he would ask me to be his wife. I cried the whole day, how did I get so lucky to have met a man that loves me more than life itself. I guess I'm lucky, no God sent him for a reason and I am still trying to figure that one out.

As me and Mike dated and got to know each other, and spent every waking hour together, my love for him deepened. He treated my little brother and sister like they were his own children (and still does), buying them gifts, teaching Ronald how to bowl, learning Sign Language so he could communicate with Elizabeth and joining our church.

After the wedding I went through a sad patch in my life. Don't get me wrong I loved being married to Mike but I had never been out on my own and I missed my little brother and sister. I would be walking through the market and see something that they liked to eat and bust out in tears. With Mike helping me, I soon got out of my funk and started volunteering more at church and having my siblings over for sleep overs.

Me and Mike have always worked together and loved it. When we sold our FedEx route's and made a go with our full time vending it changed our lives. We have never been happier, now we don't make the money we did when were at FedEx but we are truly happier. Mike is a hard worker and has built this business up from nothing. He has been in the vending business since 1996 but had to sell off his equipment when his dad was sick to help pay his hospital bills. This man is a giver and not a receiver, he would rather be starving than to see you starve.

When Mike gave me my engagement ring he told everyone that a lot of gumballs paid for it, which is true because at the time he was still running machines before he went and bought the FedEx routes. I love it when he says that gumballs bought something because people just look at him weird. Actually gumballs bought this laptop that I am typing on. HEHE!

So anyways I just wanted you all, my blog friends to know how lucky I am to have met the most giving, loving, sacrificing, God loving man on this earth. And on February 17TH he will be 32 years young and deserves a big cake for all the giving he does throughout the year.

Do you lick the bowl too?

Do you lick the bowl too after icing the cake, pouring the brownie mix into the pan or making blueberry muffins? Well I do! My love for licking the bowl started back before I was born. My dear sweet granny always made homemade chocolate cake and let my mom lick the beaters and the bowl, so I know I got it honest right? Well when I was little my granny let me lick the bowl and beaters when she was finished icing the cake or after she poured the mix into the round pans to make her famous yellow chocolate cake from scratch. So tonight as I was making brownies, because yes we are expecting snow tonight and I need comfort food, I licked the bowl afterwards and it reminded me of a favorite memory of mine when I was little. One day my kindergarten class took a field trip to my grannies house, yes we walked the whole block to Elizabeth Kale's house. My granny always made my class lunch on occasion and we would walk up there to eat her enormous spread of goodies and play in the back yard. Well on one trip, she made chocolate cake and I never got a piece so I went inside and hid so I would not have to go to back to school. So my granny peeked her head through the door and I will always remember what she said' "Molly I have a piece saved for you in the kitchen, you can have it when you come home from school". Those were some of my happiest days, her picking me up from school, driving to the bank or going on one of her extravagant shopping sprees. So do you lick the bowl of memories or do you wash the bowl when finished? Do tell.
